No One Can Take Your Creativity From You
The thing about creativity, is that no one can take it away from you. It will always be yours. It does not matter how many of your ideas get stolen, or how many times people refuse to give you credit for your work. Your creativity will forever be yours. Your uniqueness is unparalleled. And there can only be one you.
I came to this realization yesterday as I was hunched over the kitchen sink, doing the dishes. Now that I think about it, a lot of my ideas come to me when I’m doing the dishes. Actually, no. It’s usually when I’m sitting on the toilet going about my beezneez.
Awkward silence.
Crickets.
TMI?
You certainly didn’t need to know that, did you?
LOL.
Anyway, I was saying that I came to this realization when I was doing the dishes this morning. I cannot tell you how many times I have seen my work being passed off as someone else’s. Or how many songs I have written that people took credit for. It usually makes me so mad, but to be honest, I am mostly mad at myself for not having the boldness to stand up for myself and speak out.
But I can also confidently say that for every stolen piece of work, I have created ten more, bigger and better. For every song uncredited, I have written five more, sweeter and better. Every time I thought I would never have another idea half as good, my mind said “hold my daquiri” and supplied twenty more.
So you know what? I am choosing to focus on my gifts and my crafts, tapping into the never-ending, forever-flowing supply of creativity that the good Lord has bountifully bestowed on me.
I encourage you to do the same. Just ignore the thieves and the piggybacks in your life, and keep doing you.
